WMRC meeting held on 30 September 2001

Our last meeting of the year, and unfortunately it turned into a very wet one. For the time of year, though, we had a very good turn-out of drivers, including quite a few new lady drivers, which was excellent to see. Thank you to everyone who supported this meeting.
Onto Class 1, and Justin Hardy was determined to take the win this time out, passing both Darren Parkin and Vernon Wallis. Vernon later ran into problems which allowed Craig Rodford to storm past him to take the third place trophy.
Classes 3 and 7 ran together, with Ian Fay finding his new tyres were just the job today, winning both Class 3 and the race overall. Jonathan Griffiths spun himself down from second to third, with Allan Tovey taking second place. In Class 7, Kraig Murley had taken the overall lead from Ian Fay but then broke down, which allowed Mike Collins to take the class win.
All the specials ran together during the day. The first attempt at the final ended in a collision between the Class 9 cars of Martin Gaylard and Stuart Taylor. On the re-run, Dougie Atkins was in the lead of both the race and Class 8, until a serious misfire allowed Ian Stott to pass him, taking the win. The only other survivor was the Class 10 of Ian Whiffin.
A good turnout of Class 2 cars, but the race, in very slippery conditions, was led from start to finish by Craig Tovey, with Keith Channon in close pursuit, and Mark Hoppé, taking third, holding off an early challenge by Andrew Eves.
A small field of Classes 4 and 6, which ran together. Paul Routley was the only Class 4 racing with the Class 6 cars of Nick Cleal, Ken Grist and Adrian Kinchen.
Only three Class 5 cars survived to the finish, and it was a front-wheel drive track for the final which was won by Kevin Saunders, chased by Neil Daniels and Jenny Proctor, all very close together.
The juniors' race was full of action, with some juniors finding it very slippery in the mud. Robin Best took the lead while everyone else was sliding about. Chris Tudgay made his way up to second but then was blackflagged when his bonnet slid off. This allowed Howard Whipp to take second, followed by Matthew Westlake in third.
All the ladies ran together in the final, on a staggered start, as the ambulance was needed to take a junior to hospital for a check-up after an accident. In Class 1, Maureen Wallis took the win, chased by Dawn Leake, with Brenda Routley following in third. The Class 2 win was taken by Claire Burchell, out for the first time today. Jo Moore took the win in Class 5, having more success now her fuel pump problem has been solved. The Class 7 win was taken by Keryn Collins.

No Open racing today due to the weather and having to take the track down. Thanks to everyone who helped with this, especially with the weather being so bad. Thanks also to Stuart Clamp who used his Range Rover to pull quite a few of us out of the field at the end of the day - very much appreciated as you will have gathered!
I would also like to thank everyone who has helped to run these meetings throughout the year, as we wouldn't be able to manage without help. Also thank you very much to all the drivers who have supported us, turning out rain or shine. We hope you will come again next year and look forward to seeing you.

WMRC Meeting held on 16 September 2001

One of our last meetings of the year, and you could tell the season was ending with a shortage of drivers out there. The track is still raceable, and dry - so make the most of it as we have only one more meeting left this year! Due to the shortage of cars, it was difficult to run Odds and Evens, so classes were amalgamated and run mostly in 1 - 10 order.
Onto Class 1 then, and they had a good battle in the final, with Ray Tudgay and Darren Parkin really close on the line, and Paul Booth right behind them. Excellent stuff. More, please! Class 2 was another action packed race, with tussles for position going on right through the field. However, out in front were Craig Tovey, Keith Channon and Mark Hoppé, who now seem very evenly matched.
Classes 3 and 7 ran together, due to a shortage of cars. Winner of the race overall and Class 3 was Allan Tovey, who now appears to have got his car together. Ian Fay came second, having problems with the handling of his car which kept Kraig Murley, Class 7 winner, from getting past him. Mike Collins took second in Class 7.
Another amalgamated race for Classes 4, 5 and 6, with only one car each in Classes 4 and 6. Shaun Leyfield took the win in Class 4, having a real battle among the Class 5s, and Adrian Kinchen took Class 6 with his slightly ailing car. Neil Daniels was the winner in Class 5, with Jenny Proctor getting to grips with her car to take second, and Keith Ford the best front wheel drive in third.
Class 9 ran on their own, with the win going to Martin Gaylard, chased by Stuart Taylor. James Candy took third with a narrow miss to avoid a collision with the retiring Chris Ellis. Classes 8 and 10 also ran together, with Ian Whiffin being the Class 10 winner. Ian Stott was in the middle of an Atkins sandwich in Class 8, taking second between Dave Atkins (first) and Dougie Atkins (third).
Among the juniors, Chris Tudgay was out in front, chased by Sara Routley, who slowed up and allowed Jason Saunders to take second from her, and Howard Whipp took third in a close finish on the line.
The ladies' racing suffered due to mechanical breakdowns, but Jacqueline Clamp swopped from Class 7 to Class 1 to take the win from Maureen Wallis, who slowed with a problem. Christine Atkins borrowed Mark Hoppé's car to win Class 2, and Keryn Collins was the only survivor in Class 7.
Open racing followed, together with the new Devil's Race, which is growing in popularity.
Thank you to all our visitors for your support, and we hope to see you all again. Thanks also to Yvonne Best for taking results and making notes on the racing for me - it makes my life so much easier!

WMRC Meeting held on 26 & 27 August 2001

by Keryn Collins and Yvonne Best

After all the heavy rain we suffered during the running of the BAS round, the track was not at its best. In fact on Saturday night it looked almost impossible to run a race meeting on it, but thanks to the work of some of the members (and non-member!), it went down fairly well, although a bit bumpy in places.

Sunday, 26th August 2001

There was quite a good turnout of drivers for Sunday, which always makes the racing more interesting. As has become usual, we ran the racing as Odds and Evens.
Onto Class 1, and it was the usual face at the front again, Vernon Wallis who took the lead. He was chased hard by both Paul Booth and Darren Parkin who is really making his mark in Class 1 now he's among the seniors. The Class 1B final was won by Tim Smith followed by Stuart McKenzie and Paul Conbeer.
Class 3 saw Bill Beaney taking a win over Ian Fay who has now started to get his car to handle more to his liking, and Allan Tovey, who came home in third with a deflated tyre.
The most exciting race of the day was the Class 5 race, which saw Neil Daniels run away with the victory. The action was lower down in the field, with John Weeks, who'd had a massive rollover earlier in the day fighting his way up to second. Kevin Saunders was another who fought his way through the field to take third place.
Class 7 turned into a test of reliability, with only half the cars signed on still racing at the end of the day. However, Ralph Bartlett took an easy win, with Ian Dowdell in second being chased hard by Mike Collins who took the third place trophy. Only four cars finished out of eight starters.
Chris Ellis was at the head of the field of Class 9 specials, taking wins all day. Behind him, Simon Cooper held off James Candy who came good in the end to take third.
Onto Class 2, and Mark Hoppé was back in the lead. Chasing him were Dean Watts and Craig Tovey. The Class 2B final was won by Jed Francis from Liz Stowe and Ryan Napier.
There were enough Class 4 cars to have their own race today, and out in front was Shaun Leyfield. Behind him, John Best held off Paul Routley whose car was not at its best this weekend.
Karl Andrews raced at his home track this weekend, and showed his class by taking an easy win in the final. Behind him, Adrian Kinchen in his Nova held off the Mini of Ken Grist.
Classes 8 and 10 ran together, and the win in Class 8 was taken by Ian Stott over Dougie Atkins. Class 10 was won by Fred Jupe over Howard Duckworth.
The juniors' race saw Sara Routley stretch out a lead over Jason Saunders. Both these cars were well ahead of the rest of the pack. Third place was taken by Howard Whipp.
Onto the ladies, and although they started off with two races, one for unmodified classes and one for modified, they all ended up racing together on a staggered start. In Class 1, Maureen Wallis stretched out a lead over Melanie Goodenough and Emily Old. Class 2 saw the sole survivor, Christine Atkins, take the class win. Keryn Collins was the only entry in Class 7, and in Class 9, Jane Baynton had the advantage over the less experienced Sally Cooper who was out racing this car for the first time today.
There were also some Open races at the end of the day. The Modified race was won by Fred Jupe. chased by Ian Stott and Simon Cooper. The Unmodified race was won by Keith Channon, followed by Jonathan Napier and Steve Rodd. The Junior Open was won by Kevin Herbert from Simon Whipp and Howard Whipp.

Monday 27th August 2001

This was the South of England Championships day, and it would have been good to have more cars racing. Nonetheless, there was still some good racing to be had, with memorial races and plenty of Open racing, plus Champion of Championships at the end of the day.
Class 1 brought some different faces to claim trophies today, with the win being taken by Daniel Watts, holding off a determined Vernon Wallis. Mark Francis put in a tremendous effort to take third place from Justin Hardy right on the line. In the Class 1B final, Phillip Preece took the win over Keith Westlake and Tim Smith.
Onto Class 3, and it was much the same as yesterday, with Bill Beaney taking the win over Ian Fay. Allan Tovey, still having reliability problems in his car, took third place as his car expired on the line.
Class 7 saw another depleted field, with an easy win going to Ralph Bartlett. Ian Dowdell took second place again today, with Ray Stansfield keeping his car going straight long enough to take third.
Class 5 was yet another action-packed final - this seems to be the most competitive class at the moment. This time John Weeks took the win, with Kevin Saunders just managing to hold off Paul Salter to take second place.
Stuart Taylor took the Class 9 win from Mark Hall and Simon Cooper.
Mark Hoppé was again the winner in Class 2, but had more of a fight for it this time. Keith Channon was the early leader, but dropped down to third. Mark had to fend off Craig Tovey to maintain his win. In the Class 2B final, Jon Napier took the lead from the start, and held on to take the win from Dieter Dehmel and Andrew Eves.
As there were so few drivers in Classes 4 and 6, they all ran together on a staggered start. In Class 4, the win was taken by John Best, who led from the start. Paul Routley hung on to take second. In Class 6, Ray Wyeth took over the lead overall on lap 6, but then broke down, leaving Adrian Kinchen to take the win from Ken Grist.
Classes 8 and 10 also ran together. In Class 8, the win was taken by Dave Atkins, who was back racing after some time off, with Ian Stott taking second from Philip Cornhill. In Class 10, the win went, as usual, to Fred Jupe, from Howard Duckworth.
More drama and new faces at the front among the juniors. Normal front runners Sara Routley and Jason Saunders were out of contention in the final, Sara because of a puncture, and Jason getting the black flag due to a loose wheel. This resulted in a win for Matthew Westlake over Ross Newman and Richard Morgan.
Once again all the ladies raced together. Emily Old took the lead in Class 1 and the race overall, with Brenda Routley, out for only the second time, taking second place and Maureen Wallis not liking the track and settling for third. Christine Atkins was the only entry in Class 2, and Keryn Collins was the only entry in Class 7.
The Men's Champion of Champions race went to a re-run after a controversial prize-giving after too few laps. The previous winners very heroically gave back their trophies so the race could be re-run. This time it resulted in a win for Bill Beaney who had a terrific battle with Craig Tovey (the previous declared winner). Craig managed to hold on to take second from Simon Cooper.
Only three takers in the Ladies Champion of Champions, which was led from start to finish by Emily Old who maintained her lead after Keryn Collins spun on the bottom corner and finished a lap down, settling for experience on a by now very bumpy track. Christine Atkins was unfortunate to lose second place by breaking down a lap short of the finish line, but was awarded third place.
The Ray Ashman Trophy for Juniors was won by Jason Saunders after Darren Parkin loaned him his car. Jason led the race from the start, leaving Matthew Westlake to settle for second and Kevin Herbert in third.
The Nick Sturmey Memorial Trophy went to several attempts, and sadly Ian Stott broke down, so was unable to hold onto the trophy for a third year. Instead, Darren Parkin, finishing with a considerable lead over the others, took the win from Brian Jennings who broke down after leading the race from a very prompt start.
The last race of the weekend was a Devil's Race, with drivers being given several laps to sort themselves out before the last car was given the black flag. This continued until there was only one car left in the race. The winner was Stuart Taylor.

Summary of results:
Class 1: 1st BS88 Dean Watts, 2nd SS12 Vernon Wallis, 3rd S8D Mark Francis
Class 2: 1st WS4 Mark Hoppé, 2nd SS23 Craig Tovey, 3rd SS26 Keith Channon

As there were no finals, it was not possible to run Champion of Champions races.

Hope you all had the best weekend you could, and hope to see you again some time.

WMRC Meeting held 22nd July 2001

Our latest meeting was run on 22nd July, and is our last one before the Southern League stages the BAS round, which Mid-Kent are unfortunately no longer able to run. The meeting scheduled for 12 August has been cancelled. The good news is that at the BAS round, dogs will be allowed, provided they stay on leads and do not leave the confines of the race-site. The farmer has threatened to shoot any dog which is not complying with these rules. You have been warned.

Judicious watering and lots of hard work on the track laid down the conditions for some excellent quality finals. These were some of the best races I have seen, not least of all the Class 1 final, which turned into a four-car battle, and only resolved itself on the final lap. The leading contenders were Darren Parkin, Vernon Wallis, Ray Tudgay and Justin Hardy, who eventually ended up in these positions after Darren put on a very strong challenge on Vernon Wallis before finally overtaking him on the last lap, and Ray Tudgay doing likewise with Justin Hardy. Congratulations to all of you - that was a superb race.
Classes 3 and 7 ran together, and unfortunately dwindled down to 3 finishers over both classes. Apart from that it was a great race, with a hard chase by Wayne Thresher on Adrian Joyce (both in Class 3) before Wayne finally overtook Adrian. Ralph Bartlett was the only survivor in Class 7, and caught up the Class 3s after the staggered start. So hectic was the battle at the front that Ralph was unable to get past and had to settle for third overall.
Class 5 was more peaceful after that, with Neil Daniels taking an early lead, followed by Bev Candy. The field became well spread out, but gradually Jo Ford dropped back in third place and finally lost it to Keith Ford on the last lap.
All the specials ran together, and this was another good race. Martin Gaylard was the clear, overall race winner, and first in Class 9, but the rest of the cars mixed it pretty well, with places chopping and changing all over. At the end of the race, the Class 9s were in front, with Martin taking the win, followed by Stuart Taylor, while in Class 8, Ian Stott broke away from Adrian Stevens. Tony Tanswell in the lone Class 10 broke down with gearbox problems.
Onto Class 2, and Keith Channon and Mark Hoppé were the clear leaders, breaking away from the battle behind them. Dean Watts emerged the best of the rest, taking third place, but he had a very hard fight for it.
Classes 4 and 6 ran together on a staggered start, with Paul Routley charging straight into the lead while Wayne Field found the track somewhat slippery. Nick Cleal in his Class 6 put a strong challenge on Paul for the overall lead, and Paul held him off as long as he could. Sadly, Paul's car developed a mechanical fault and slowed right down, allowing Wayne Field to take the class win. Adrian Kinchen and Paul Lumley had a battle throughout the race for the second and third places in Class 6 and eventually settled in that order.
The juniors final unfortunately did not go to its full distance, as Ross Newman stopped the race when he took a close look at the bottom fence. At the time the race was stopped, Chris Tudgay was well out in front, with Richard Morgan a comfortable distance ahead of the third place driver, Howard Whipp.
The ladies once again all ran together, with only five cars making the final. Maureen Wallis took the early lead, followed by Emily Old, and they were chased for a short while by Christine Atkins in her Class 2 before it broke down. Jacqueline Clamp (Class 7) and Kate Lumley (Class 6) started together on the staggered start, with the higher powered car of Jacqueline eventually winning the race overall.

Full results were:

And that was it for another day. Thank you very much to our visitors - as always, it was a pleasure to see you, and you made the racing much more interesting. The next meeting on this track will be the BAS round on 18th and 19th August, when hopefully we might get a few more visitors! Look forward to seeing you all again then.

WMRC Meeting held on 1st July 2001

To put a good racing surface back on the track, a lot of water went down on Saturday evening, and more on Sunday morning between races. This meant that, at times, track conditions were a bit slippery, but it did mean that by the time of the finals, the track was a lot better than last time, and didn't need any more water.
We saw some new visitors this weekend. Thank you for supporting our meeting, and we hope you enjoyed yourselves. It would be great to see you again.
Because there were no Class 7 cars, and only a couple of Class 5s, it was decided to run the racing straight through this time.
Onto Class 1 results, and again Vernon Wallis stretched out a lead over Darren Parkin and Craig Rodford. In Class 2, Mark Hoppé threatened Keith Channon's win, but eventually had to settle for second this time round, chased by Dean Watts.
Class 3 saw the return of Roly Collett after a long break. He chased Allan Tovey hard but then had to fend off Malcolm Cousins. Allan made the most of his opportunity to stretch out a lead. The two Class 5 cars ran with Class 4, but only Neil Daniels survived to the finish. Class 4 suffered quite a few mechanical problems, with William Dobson surviving to the finish to take the win, and Paul Routley took second place with a sick-sounding car.
In Class 6, Nick Cleal emerged the winner after fending off strong challenges from both Keith Matthews and Adrian Kinchen, who had to settle for that order. All the specials ran together. Ian Stott was the only finisher in Class 8, but chased Martin Gaylard hard in the Class 9. Martin was the winner of both Class 9 and the race overall. Close behind both Ian and Martin was Stuart Taylor in his Class 9 car. The ailing car of Ian Whiffin was the sole survivor in Class 10.
Unfortunately, the junior final was ended by a rollover (the driver was unhurt after his second roll of the day), but at that point Adam Gould and Jason Saunders had stretched out a lead over the rest of the field. Tasha Thomas took the third place trophy.
Very few ladies again this week, and all ran together. Maureen Wallis was, as usual, at the head of the field, followed by Dawn Leake and Keryn Collins. Christine Atkins won Class 2 and came third overall after a staggered start.

Full results were:
Class 1: 1st SS12 Vernon Wallis, 2nd WS32 Darren Parkin, 3rd WS444 Craig Rodford

WMRC Meeting held on 17 June 2001

This turned into quite an eventful meeting, and it was excellent to see so many visitors again. Thank you all for coming and we hope to see you all again. The track has started to go a bit rough, but work will take place on it before the next meeting to ensure a smoother surface.

Onto Class 1, and this turned into an action packed race, with places chopping and changing all over. There was also a fair bit of banger racing going on, it seemed; perhaps there are some drivers out there who need reminding this is a non-contact sport. Anyway, Vernon Wallis ended up taking his usual place at the head of the field, with Ryan Bennett coming in a strong second, and Justin Hardy in third.
Class 3 turned in an unusual result, with Shaun Brown uncharacteristically breaking down, and Allan Tovey and Ian Fay having a real battle at the front, with Ian having a moment which cost him the race and pushed him down to second. Third place went to Malcolm Cousins.
Class 5 was a bit of a disaster. The first attempt was cancelled after a rollover and then, due to a broken plate on the bowser, a lot of water went on the track, causing cars to skid and slide all over the place. James Candy emerged the winner, followed by Martin Honeybun and Jenny Proctor.
Onto Class 7, and the track was still a bit wet, causing the odd problem or two. Kraig Murley destroyed his car when it collapsed under him for the second time, allowing Stuart Clamp to take over the lead, followed by Ian Dowdell and Ralph Bartlett who spun out of contention.
All the specials ran together in a tight-packed race, but leading Class 8 was WS56 Ian Stott, followed by WS733 Merv Lister. Class 9 was won by Martin Gaylard, from Stuart Taylor and Graham Orchard. In Class 10, Ian Whiffin was the winner, followed by Howard Duckworth who raced on in spite of injuring his hands, and Tony Tanswell took the third place. Martin Gaylard also won the race overall.

I couldn't watch most of the "even" classes due to getting ready to go and race; however, Class 2 was dominated by Mark Hoppé, who took a convincing win from Andy Walbridge, and Andrew Eves' persistence paid off, giving him third place. Class 4 was won by Paul Routley, with John Best having to settle for second, and Wayne Field actually managed to keep a car together long enough to take third! All I could see of Class 6 while I was waiting on the start line was roof fins going round and the occasional car, but it was won quite convincingly by Ray (smart new tablecloth, sorry, overalls!) Wyeth, chased by Nick Cleal, and Keith Matthews managed not to break his car until after the finish line to take third.
Slight shortage of juniors this weekend, but Sara Routley pulled out all the stops to take the win from the newcomers Jason Saunders and Ross Newman.

Even more short of lady drivers, so we all ended up running together on a staggered start. Jane Baynton in Class 9 easily won the race overall. In Class 1, Maureen Wallis came to grief on the bottom corner, which put her out of contention, allowing visiting drivers Laura Atyeo and Melanie Goodenough to take the first two trophies and local driver Emily Old took third. Michelle Hoppé was the lone runner in Class 2, and I was the only survivor in Class 5.

Full results were:

Class 1: 1st SS12 Vernon Wallis, 2nd WS13 Ryan Bennett, 3rd SS1 Justin Hardy
Class 2: 1st WS4 Mark Hoppé, 2nd SS71 Andy Walbridge, 3rd WS44 Andrew Eves
Class 3: 1st SS18 Allan Tovey, 2nd WS5 Ian Fay, 3rd WS950 Malcolm Cousins
Class 4: 1st WS28 Paul Routley, 2nd SS34 John Best, 3rd WS0 Wayne Field
Class 5: 1st WS6 James Candy, 2nd NR200 Martin Honeybun, 3rd SS220 Jenny Proctor
Class 6: 1st SS19 Ray Wyeth, 2nd SS0 Nick Cleal, 3rd WS666 Keith Matthews
Class 7: 1st WS500 Stuart Clamp, 2nd S2D Ian Dowdell, 3rd SS20 Ralph Bartlett
Class 8: 1st WS56 Ian Stott, 2nd WS733 Merv Lister
Class 9: 1st WS9 Martin Gaylard, 2nd WS221 Stuart Taylor, 3rd WS94 Graham Orchard
Class 10: 1st WS234 Ian Whiffin, 2nd S6D Howard Duckworth, 3rd WS25 Tony Tanswell

Juniors: 1st WS47 Sara Routley, 2nd WS1 Jason Saunders, 3rd WS39 Ross Newman

Ladies Class 1: 1st NR72 Laura Atyeo, 2nd BS15 Melanie Goodenough, 3rd WS46 Emily Old
Ladies Class 2: 1st WS4 Michelle Hoppé
Ladies Class 5: 1st WS91 Keryn Collins
Ladies Class 9: 1st WS9 Jane Baynton

Non-finalist Class 1 winner: WS7 Keith Ford
Non-finalist Class 2 winner: SS141 Harry Winchester

Unmodified Open: 1st NR72, 2nd WS13, 3rd WS7
Modified Open: 1st WS94, 2nd SS220, 3rd WS25

And that was it for today. Many thanks once again to all our visiting drivers and we hope you enjoyed your visit. We look forward to seeing you again.

My personal thanks to Pete Saunders for allowing me to wreck/drive his car - I very much appreciated your offer, and assistance from Kevin and, of course, Mike. Thanks again.

WMRC Meeting held 27th and 28th May 2001

Our first meeting of the year, and I'd like to thank everyone who helped make it such a success, particularly our visitors, and also to our club members who put in so much work, both in putting the track up and helping things run smoothly on the day.
Some excellent racing, and the track, although a bit bumpy on the first day, gradually came down smoother and faster, and was laying rubber on the top corner. It's good to be back on the BAS track again.
Onto the racing again, and we were using Odds and Evens format. If I've missed anyone out, then I'm sorry, but I didn't actually see much racing and I'm working from the lap-scoring charts.

27th May

Class 1: The final succeeded in completing at the third attempt, and H18 Jessy Smith took the early lead, chased by 46F Darren Creed. Darren challenged for the lead and took it while Jessy gradually dropped back through the pack. Darren then found himself being challenged by B100H Brian Herridge and eventually was overtaken by him. SV77 Barry Hanks was a steady third throughout the race. Other runners were B6H Phillip Preece, BS15 Neil Porter, BS88 Daniel Watts, WS444 Craig Rodford, S8D Mark Francis and B41H Stephen Gregory.
Final result: 1st B100H Brian Herridge, 2nd 46F Darren Creed, 3rd SV77 Barry Hanks

Class 3: In the final, WS8 Shaun Brown charged into the lead and stayed there. P24 Andrew Hughes, WS22 Adrian Joyce and WS950 Malcolm Cousins had their own battle throughout the race. WS27 Jonathan Griffiths put in a challenge on WS950 Malcolm Cousins but was unable to make it stick.
Final result: 1st WS8 Shaun Brown, 2nd P24 Andrew Hughes, 3rd WS22 Adrian Joyce

Class 5: In the final, NR200 Martin Honeybun took the early lead. WS191 Kevin Saunders lost his bonnet and had to retire. Neil Daniels in WS19 charged through the field to take second, and stayed there. In the early stages of the race, a battle between WS484 Jo Ford and NR115 Alan Wegg saw them chopping and changing places, but eventually they settled in that order. Further down the field, 7F Joe Barnett and WS6 Bev Candy were having their own battle.
Final result: 1st NR200 Martin Honeybun, 2nd WS19 Neil Daniels, 3rd WS484 Jo Ford

Class 7: At the start of the final, 40F Gerald Bennetto was the early leader, but S20D Steve Smith put on a challenge, and 40F had to give way. He then came under attack from Stuart Clamp in WS500, who made it stick to take second place. S2D Ian Dowdell finished in fourth place.
Final result: 1st S20D Steve Smith, 2nd WS500 Stuart Clamp, 3rd 40F Gerald Bennetto

Class 9: E141 Roger Bown took the early lead, but eventually was forced to give way to first S21D Dave Smith and then Nick Aldridge in S5D. Sadly, neither WS94 Graham Orchard nor A5 Bob Talboys made it to the finish.
Final result: 1st S21D Dave Smith, 2nd S5D Nick Aldridge, 3rd E141 Roger Bown

Class 2: The final went to the second attempt, and on the re-run, BS111 Philip Badman took the early lead and stayed there. S28D Mike Robins had been leading the race when it was stopped, but had to settle for second this time round. WS44 Andrew Eves fell by the wayside, as did B88H Derek May, leaving B108H Matthew Cleevely, WS84 Terry Pattison and WS34 Steve Rodd to pick up the remaining places.
Final result: 1st BS111 Philip Badman, 2nd S28D Mike Robins, 3rd B108H Matthew Cleevely

Class 4: Ran with Class 6 for the final (see below).
Final result: 1st S47D Rob Smart, 2nd NS941 Shaun Leyfield, 3rd 17F Rob Yarworth.

Class 6: Ran with Class 4 on a staggered start for the final. The class 4 of S47D Rob Smart took the early lead, chased by NS941 Shaun Leyfield. Catching up from the staggered start, WS31 Adrian Kinchen (class 6) made his way through the field, but was unable to catch S47D or NS941. Behind him WS666 Keith Matthews (class 6) followed him through, as did SV32 Brett Perry (class 6), with 17F Rob Yarworth taking third place in Class 4. Sadly WS28 Paul Routley did not finish.
Final result (Class 6): 1st WS31 Adrian Kinchen, 2nd WS666 Keith Matthews, 3rd SV32 Brett Perry

Class 8: Some very quick cars in this race, allowing some hot and hectic racing. YS4 Justin Warren took the early lead, but had to give way to S12D Ian Phipps, although he succeeded in holding off S10D Katie Phipps. Further down the field, E115 Steve Stanford, S40D Mark Smith and BS81 Dave Atkins had their own battle, finishing in that order. WS56 Ian Stott and IW73 Lee Zammit chopped and changed positions before settling in that order, followed by BS1 Chris Badman
Final result: 1st S12D Ian Phipps, 2nd YS4 Justin Warren, 3rd S10D Katie Phipps

Class 10: From the start, S66D Gary Shipton took the lead, but later ran into problems which caused him to drop back behind WS25 Tony Tanswell. He stayed very close, though, and in the end had just enough left to allow him to o
